Introduction

Romeo and Juliet is a play by William Shakespeare which is about “Two households in fair Verona where we lay our scene” where within two feuding families two lovers from the Montague and Capulet family (Romeo and Juliet) meet and fall in love with each other and conduct their relationship and marriage in secret due to the hate that separates them, it is this conflict that drives the two of them to marry the day after they meet for the first time so that they can see each other more often. Other examples of when their relationship was driven by conflict are, when Romeo kills Tybalt because Tybalt killed Mercutio and sneaks into Juliet’s room to see her one last time before he leaves, should there have been no conflict there would have been no reason to fight at all.

When Romeo and Juliet meet they are in love at first site of each other however juliet (from my perspective) being the smarter one of the two decides that the only way to see each other again due to the conflict and because she wants to test Romeos comitment says “If that thy bent of love be honourable, Thy purpose marriage, send me word to-morrow, By one that I’ll procure to come to thee, Where and what time thou wilt perform the rite; And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay And follow thee my lord throughout the world. “ in other words saying “if you truly do love me then send the word to me that you want to marry me tommorow” this talk going back and forth between romeo and juliet would have certainly gone different should there have been no conflict between the familys and instead of being in the open talking about it they have to talk in secret and rush the convesation with juliet For example, Juliet says “if they see thee they will kill thee” wanting Romeo to stay away from the Capulet mansion as he could get killed a part of the reason I believe she asks to marry the next day so they can see each other more often without the added risk of either being killed. Romeo mistakes the danger of being in the Capulet garden for an obstacle that he must pass to see Juliet being the brash teenager he is which I believe is what drove Juliet (apart from wanting to see commitment) to ask Romeo to marry tomorrow.

After Romeos happiest moment of his life he immediately enters into the saddest moment of his life (except for Juliet’s supposed “death”) where Mercutio is fatally wounded in his fight against Tybalt and ultimately dies in front of Romeo which saddens and angers Romeo greatly with him lashing out after the death of Mercutio and killing Tybalt, Should there have been no disputes between the two families then this fight would not have needed to happen and there would have been far fewer deaths than what there were. Another thing is that if it were not once again for the conflict that divides the two sides of the families then Romeo after being banished from Verona by Prince Escalus “let Romeo hence in haste, Else, when he’s found, that hour is his last.” Then Romeo would not only be with his newly wedded wife safe and sound and not worry about being split apart but also would be able to see her much more often than when they did in the play. An example of what may have happened at the ball if there was no divide between the two families is with Paris, if there was no conflict Romeo would have taken the spot of Paris and the only difference is that Juliet’s love would have been returned the love unlike within the play where it’s only Paris who loves Juliet and no love is returned back. Not to mention that both Romeo and Paris both come from prestigious families with Paris only having the slight upper hand with being the son of the mayor of Verona however, capulet and lady capulet would have still married Juliet with Romeo as they would have seen that she actually loved Romeo and that he was from a wealthy family.

My opinion on the relationship that was driven by conflict.

In my opinion if it were not for the conflict that had driven the two families apart then there would have been no deaths and everyone one would be happy (well maybe Paris wouldn’t be). However since there was a wedge between the families almost all the main characters died including romeo and juliet. Not to mention because of the conflict there was miscommunication to reunite Juliet with Romeo and Romeo got beared the wrong news and commited suicide and shortly after juliet after hearing that her Romeo is dead committed suicide shortly after as well, In conclusion the conflict with the two families stayed with Romeo and Juliet till the bitter end with every scene where they are together being affected by the conflict with there peaceful world to themselves being intruded by the hate outside and with this came the end of Juliet and her Romeo.
